Yay! You've decided to work with me as your school photographer—thank you! 🎉 Together, we’ll find a date or multiple dates (depending on your school’s size) that work for everyone. I’ll likely stop by to talk things over and see the space(s) you have available.

School photos can be done any time of year! Some schools do them once a year, and some offer them twice. It's up to you and what your families want.

I want this process to be as stress-free and seamless for you as possible! I’ll take care of parent communication, including details about picture day, ordering instructions, and reminders.

I’ll request a roster of students, which I’ll load into my system to help everything run smoothly on picture day. This ensures each child’s images are correctly organized and easy for parents to access later.

On picture day, I’ll need a space to set up my light and backdrop. I'll have a couple different seating options for children to sit on. Then, it’s all about capturing each child’s natural personality in their photos!

I don't treat picture day llke an assembly line. I take a few minutes with each child allowing them to settle in, interact with me, and show me their adorable little personalities. Each family will get a small gallery of images to choose from.

4. picture day

I pride myself on a quick turnaround! Parents will receive a proof gallery within about a week. Galleries will remain open for two weeks to allow families plenty of time to order. Once ordering is complete, prints and products will be delivered to the school in just a few days.

School photos should be all about the kids—genuine, authentic, and full of personality. No fake backgrounds, cheesy props, or stiff, forced smiles. As a Harrisonburg, Charlottesville, and Staunton school photographer, I focus on capturing children’s true expressions, creating timeless keepsakes that families will treasure for years to come.

You can expect a small gallery of images for each child aiming to get a variety of expressions. I encourage happy expressions, but never force them.

With 17 years of experience as an educator in public schools and 10 years as a photographer, I’ve developed a unique ability to connect with kids and bring out their true personalities. As a former teacher, I know how to make children feel comfortable and have fun, creating a relaxed and enjoyable experience on picture day. Now a full-time photographer, I specialize in school photography for preschools, daycares, homeschool cohorts, and elementary schools in Harrisonburg, Staunton, and Charlottesville.
